Eligibility

Eligibility for the Arabic Flagship

Arabic Flagship encourages students at all levels of Arabic proficiency to apply, including those with a background in Arabic, heritage learners, and students with no Arabic knowledge.

To apply you must:

  • have at least a 3.00 cumulative GPA
  • be committed to achieving Superior level Arabic through completing necessary coursework, fulfilling program extracurricular requirements, remaining in good academic standing, and completing a Capstone year abroad in Morocco

Students who are not U.S. citizens or permanent residents are eligible to apply for the program, but they are not eligible to receive Flagship funding.

Additional requirements

Our Arabic Flagship students are expected to follow certain requirements to remain in the Flagship. These are as follows:

  • Be enrolled in an Arabic course every semester while at IU
  • Maintain a minimum of a B+ in Arabic courses
  • Attend 1 hour of tutoring and 1 hour of conversation every week
  • Attend 1 club, dialect table, or workshop every week
  • Complete a benchmark proficiency assessment every semester
  • Successfully complete the Capstone year in the city of Meknes, Morocco
  • Attend advising sessions with Flagship administration every semester
  • Attend weekly class conversation hour
  • Participate in at least 1 Flagship cultural event every semester
